The following memo was sent via email to staff on February 12, 2016, from Dr. Carine M. Feyten, Chancellor & President.
Dear Faculty & Staff:
I sent you a video recording (see below) back on the first day of classes. I’m now going to host two sessions on the Denton campus on Wednesday, March 2, and I would like to invite you to discuss the ideas I shared in that video. Please stop by ACT 301 at 11:00 AM or 2:30 PM to share your perspective. For those of you in Dallas and Houston who cannot join the discussions on your campus, you might also join the Denton discussion via video conference at either time from IHSD 3510 or IHSH 3115.
In the video recording, I reference David Brooks’ New York Times op-ed piece, “The Big University,” Frank Bruni’s NYT op-ed piece “How to Measure a College’s Value,” The Economist’s“The Value of University: Our First-ever College Rankings,” the “Gallup-Purdue Index 2015 Report on College Graduates.” and Edmunds and Boyer’s, “How Great Colleges Distinguish Themselves.”
I would appreciate knowing your reactions, thoughts and questions, which might help us frame the discussion. Please submit these on the anonymous feedback form. I look forward to seeing you in the small group discussion.
